A Right to Information activist was arrested by the Mumbai Police on Saturday for allegedly making “derogatory” remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP leader Kirit Somaiya.
According to the police, the accused Ghulam Qazi is an RTI activist.
According to the police, “We have registered a case against the accused under sections 509, 500, 506 (2) and 504 of the Indian Penal Code and have taken him into custody.”
According to a Mumbai Police official, the accused had allegedly made “derogatory” remarks about the prime minister and other leaders in a Facebook post.
“The accused allegedly threatened them,” the police said.
On Friday, a man called the Delhi Police control room and threatened to kill Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to the information, the threatening call created a stir in the police department and they quickly swung into action to trace the call.
After tracing the call, the police arrested the person from Karol Bagh in Prasad Nagar area of Delhi. The accused has been identified as Hemant, a resident of Regar Pura, Delhi, who according to the police made the call in an inebriated state.
“After receiving the PCR call a team was dispatched and the caller Hemant Kumar aged 48 yrs s/o Mala Ram r/o House No. 72/5491, Raigar Pura, Karol Bagh was brought to the police station and interrogated,” police said. .
He further said that the accused is unemployed for the last six years and is addicted to alcohol.
In April this year, the police arrested a man who had written a letter threatening a suicide bomb attack on PM Modi during his visit to Kochi on April 24.
In March this year, a Delhi court convicted a man for misbehaving and taking steps to kill PM Modi. The accused got the benefit of doubt when the court acquitted him.
According to the court, the prosecution failed to prove the allegations beyond reasonable doubt.
The court expressed serious concern over the methodology of the investigation and the absence of public witnesses.
