Thiruvananthapuram: State information commission K L Vivekanandan has slapped a fine of Rs 25,000 on the Chavara KMML information officer for purposefully delaying answers to an RTI query. The order came while disposing a petition by Chavara native Thomas John against KMML information officer Jaison Thomas .
The petitioner had sought details regarding KMML’s land acquisition in the Kovilthotttam area and a copy of the tahsildars’ report in this connection. Thomas John approached the commission after waiting for months after he filed the application in 2019.
“The information officer casually denied the information by claiming that he did not receive the details from the section concerned. He took the same evasive stand when the commission conducted a hearing on the complaint,” the commission said.
Since the information officer refused to comply with the commission order, the commission informed KMML MD that non-compliance of the commission order could attract revenue recovery from the properties of the information officer. Following this, the officer remitted the fine.
